C.J. studied fine art,
writing and psychology in
college and received a
master's degree in social
work. She loved her
experiences with a wide
variety of clients in the
social services field for
over ten years.
In 2003, C.J. could no
longer resist the calling
of her creative side and
she laid the plans to
develop a business that
would combine a

in building with clay in

For many of us, our houses are not simply the boards and nails and plaster used
to build a shelter. Our houses are homes we have created with our shared hope,
love, hard work and memories. I am one of these people.
I have collected lighted village houses for many years. Like many "village people,"
I added a new house to my collection every year around Christmas time. As I was
choosing my new addition each year, I realized what I looked for first, was a
house that resembled the actual house I lived in.
But, I could never find a commercial piece close enough in detail to really make
me feel it was my house and bring out all the emotions I associate with my home.
As I added another collector house to my little village, it always felt like someone
else's house in the village. I wanted my house in the village.
I decided that, if I could not find exactly what I wanted, I would create it myself.
Fortunately, I had studied many art forms as a student and undergraduate and,
although it was using the medium of clay in a challenging new way, I decided to
sculpt a miniature version of my own house. The result was exactly what I had
been searching for. There was 'my house in the village.'
In fact, I loved my little replica so much that, as I stored my collector village after
the holiday season, my little lighted house, 'My House,' never was packed away.
Now, it is featured 365 day a year in various rooms of my home. There seems to
be no end as to where and how 'My House' can be displayed.
Well, of course, there is also no end to the number of people who feel exactly
about their homes as I do mine. In 2003, 'My House In The Village' by
RedDirtGirl Designs opened to offer other people the pleasure of adding
personalized replicas of their own houses and other special buildings to their
village and railroad collections, homes and offices.
