Hello,
In attempting to communicate the personal meaning for me in creating these little
replicas of America's' homes, I've decided nothing I can write puts it into words
better than the following quote from a Rounder Records ( www.rounder.com )
description of a particular bluegrass CD. This description has not only made it clear
to me why the music pulls at my heart so strongly, it, more importantly, has made
me realize why I was drawn to creating my company RedDirtGirl Designs and the
'My House In The Village' product line.
I'd like to share it with you:
Home is where ever your heart gets that warm and full-up feeling. Maybe it's your
childhood home. Maybe it's where you are reading this right now. Home is the
place where a person can come on in and be their real selves. It is where we are
safe. It is where we love and are loved.
The 'My House' line is for those of you nodding your head in complete
understanding right now. These little homes are for those of you that know that a
house is more than wood and nails. A home is the place that makes us smile when
we pull in the driveway at the end of the day.
'My House' is for everyone from bluegrass to opera lovers, from those that live in
little cabins on the hill to those that live in Manhatton. Home is where your heart
lives.
"No genre of music has been more insistent than bluegrass in arguing that home is where the heart is. Since the beginning, its musicians and songwriters have summoned listeners back to the 'little cabin home on the hill.' As the pace of contemporary American life grows ever faster, bluegrass music reminds us of our dreams and bedrock values and connects us to an earlier and more rustic phase of our national existence." ---Rounder Records, Issue #57

Background of C.J. Keller and History of RedDirtGirl Designs RDG Designs was officially created in 2003 by C.J. Keller, but was conceived long ago by that little red-haired girl swinging on our logo (see top of page). C.J. studied fine art, writing and psychology in college and received a master's degree in social work. She loved her experiences with a wide variety of clients in the social services field for over ten years. In 2003, C.J. could no longer resist the strong calling of her creative side and she laid the plans to develop a business that would combine a sentimental love of homes, history and families with an interest in designing and building with clay in new and innovative ways. Thus, the birth of 'My House In The Village'.

"Every year, my brothers and sisters and I struggle for ideas about what Christmas present to get Mom and
Dad. By now, they have everything they need and we hate to give them more things that really don't mean
much and just amount to clutter. When I saw the lighted house that you created for a friend, I knew our
dilemmas were solved. I commissioned a replica of my house for them so my parents could look on their
mantle every night and "see" me and my family in our house-- even though we live across the country.
Mom still talks about the little house every time I call her. She says she looks at it while we are talking and
feels that much closer to me. It's so personalized.
Needless to say, you know what gifts the rest of my family members are getting Mom and Dad this year.
Every night, my parents will soon be able to see all their childrens' houses with windows lit with life as if we
were all just next door.
Thank you for your wonderful gift to us." --Cheryl Ann, Aimes, Iowa
